can i eat them raw? just sprinkle on cereals?
any other suggestions?>
or do i need to grind them?
Answer:
You can eat them raw and sprinkled in various foods including cereal, salads, ice cream etc.
However, according to the link posted below, flaxseed should be ground to get the most nutritional benefit per the following quote:
" To obtain the beneficial fatty acids from the flax seeds themselves, they need to be ground first. You can buy either ground flax meal or whole flax seeds from a health food store and grind them yourself in a coffee grinder before use. Because it is high in oil, ground flaxseed will go rancid quickly. Store flax meal in the freezer for up to one month or in the refrigerator for only one to two days. Use ground flaxseed
* in baking,
* as part of granola,
* sprinkled on salads, or
* in blender shakes."
Answer:
the beneficial component of flax seed is in its essential oils. If eaten whole they serve nor render any benefits. Grinding them help to get those oils out of the seeds. Hope this helps.
Answer:
I have been using Flax seed for years. I grind my own in my blender 1/2-1 cup at a time. But I also add 1/4 cup whole flax seed in my homemade bread & anything I bake that goes well with nuts, for the added fiber. I also use 1/2 tsp. whole flax swallowed with a large glass of water as a remedy for indigestion. Plenty of water is key. Consuming a tsp of whole flax [w/lg glass of water] will keep you regular. Flax good.
Answer:
they must be ground because they contain enzyme inhibitors that make them impossible to digest unlees they are ground.
Answer:
They are a lot more digestable if you grind them. Best to grind fresh if possible but personally I buy it pre-ground and keep in the fridge. I mix 2 tablespoons into my oatmeal in the morning. You can always make bread and muffins with it too, but I prefer stirring it into Oatmeal as soon as it's done cooking so none of the nutrients get cooked out of the flaxseed.
Answer:
The whole seed does not diget in the body, just intact passes through.
