1) If you can move around the departments then you can get a good idea of what each job really is like. This can be extremely beneficial if you want to go into the medical field, but you're not sure what you want to do with it yet.
2) good karma, and volunteering ALWAYS looks good on college and scholarship applications, especially if it's outside of a club.
3)It exposes you to situations which clue you in on what happens on a daily basis
