What would happen if the blood brain barrier were to suddenly become incompetent?
List the possible consequences for the patient.
Answer: toxic byproducts would be able to penetrate the brain. Bacteria & viruses also. Antibodies would also be able to penetrate and might cause demylination (there is some evidence that this occurs in MS)
