I'm going to the dentist tomorrow to get a permanent retainer on my upper teeth. Does anyone know if I’ll have to get an impression? (The rubbery stuff they put in your mouth) I was just curious if they do that for permanent retainers.

Answer:
Depends on the type of retainer they’re going to give you. The most common now are the clear ones these you’ll have to have an alginate impression for. Sometimes they just cement a wire from canine to canine on the inside. These you dont have to do anything.

Answer:
whatever you do…don’t get the wire that cements lingually inside your mouth if you dont have your wisdom teeth pulled. i had that kind of perment retainer and it crowded my teeth when my widom teeth began to erupt. the clear retainers are much better. at the office i work for we do not do permanent retainer like that. dr i work for doesnt like them

Answer:
yes they’ll need to take an impression to make the retainers specifically to your mouth.

Answer:
yeah probably, i had to get one for mine
