i have always had cold sores ever since i was younger..my mother has had them also..

they always appear at the corners of my mouth [mostly when the weather is colder]..and gradually go away

but now that i have become sexually active, i am concerned because i dont know if the cold sores are coming because of herpes simplex 2 or just because i've always had them..

[i've never had genital sores]

this week, i had a cold sore and after using abreva it is now healing but this morning another one appeared on the other side of my lip,and this has never happened before[where 2 cold sores have come up around the same time]

my question is though:

[1]are there different symptoms for herpes simplex one and herpes simplex two to let me know that this is or isn’t sexually transmitted?

thanks.

Answer:
Simplex 1 is generally considered an above the belt infection, and simplex 2 is below. However both of the strains can be spread to both locations.

The herpes lesions are extremely contagious, both to yourself and to other people. If you’re getting the sores in new places, you've probably spread the virus by touching the sore and then other skin areas. You could also have been reinfected, such as by kissing a partner and transferring the virus to them, then getting infected back again by that partner, just as an example.

It is possible to give the cold sores to someone in their genital area as well, so stay away from sexual activity while you’ve an outbreak to be safe.

Answer:
It is really really important when you have coldsores [ herpes simplex 1] to not kiss anybody on the lips and do not have any form of oral sex as this will pass it downstairs and then you’ll have herpes simplex 2 to contend with as well. A general rule of thumb is as soon as you feel the tingle of a coldsore coming on don’t use your mouth for any form of sexual entertainment…. Always wash your hands thoroughly if you touch your coldsores. These things injured like hell down below - so avoid at all costs.

Answer:
cold soars come from herpes simplex 1,once you’ve them your probly stuck for life with them,so being sexually active has nothing to do with it,and if you’ve no genital soars then your fine.

Answer:
All herpes infections are highly contagious.
HSV1 and HSV2 can occur anywhere. A partner can get genital herpes through oral sex, and vice versa.
You can be contagious even when you don't have an outbreak.

Answer:
Yes! herpes simplex one is from the waist up and herpes simplex two is from the waist down. You might have to take valtrex if you keep breaking out
