I was reading the side effects on Lyrica, and I know it isnt a narcotic but just as effective for pain. Does anyone know what schedule V means, and what is the difference between that rank and schedulle1,11,111,1V? Whats the difference?
Answer:
A schedule V controlled substance has shown some potential abuse issues in clinical trials. Lyrica, for example, has shown “euphoria” in treated individuals. While this has not really been shown to make patients abuse the drug, it raised concern that it is a possible problem. Basically, it is an alert to doctors who prescribe the drug to monitor the patient a little more closely than they would if prescribed a non-scheduled drug.
Schedule V substances have the least potential for abuse, and it increases gradually. Schedule III substances are drugs like vicodin or xanax, and schedule II are drugs like percocet and adderall. Schedule I drugs are illegal street drugs, like heroin and cocaine that show no potential for medicinal use. The only caveat to that is marijuana is considered a schedule I drug and it is used medicinally and has not been proven to be chemically addictive. In general, however, Schedule I drugs are not prescribed.
