I’ve a “few” questions; just bare with me[:

1. What's the ideal school in the Philadelphia area? I was thinking University of Penn.
2.How many years would it take to be one?
-How many years of college and how many years of other training, specify.
3.What’s the average yearly income?
4.How can I superior prepare?
5.Can you pretty much lay out college for me?
Like, two years of such and such a course, then a 6 year residency, followed by a four year fellowship, etc.
6.Are they in demand?

I'm a very bright student and this is really what I want to do.

***Any personal advice (from a cardiac surgeon or a cardiac surgeon-to be) would be highly, highly appreciated.

Answer:
1. What's the ideal school in the Philadelphia area? I was thinking University of Penn.
College or med school? In the long run, it doesn't much matter.

2.How many years would it take to be one?
-How many years of college and how many years of other training, specify.

4 yrs college
4 years med school
5 - 7 yrs general surgery residency
3 yrs CT surg fellowship
Total = 16-18 years. You'll be well into your thirties before you are fully trained.

3.What’s the average yearly income?
They make a lot. Depends on where you work, academics vs. private practice, how much call you take, etc. Those guys (and most of them ARE men) work their butts off. Count on 80 hour weeks the rest of your life.

4.How can I superior prepare?
Begin being a complete a$$hole to everyone around you. Yell at people who are trying to help you. Become immune to death, because you'll see a lot of it, and be intimately involved in it. Begin believing that you’re, in fact, a deity.

5.Can you pretty much lay out college for me?
No, I can't. Everyone does things differently. A college advisor could, though.

6.Are they in demand?
Much less so, now that minimally invasive procedures are available (stenting, and so forth)
