The mental cloudiness, slurred speech, pinpoint pupils. Is there anything that can mitigate or even eliminate these side effects?
Answer:
Honestly, if he is in enough pain to be taking that much pain medicine, you do *NOT* want him coherent. The morphine doesnt kill the pain, just drugs him to the point that he doesnt care/can ignore it. If you were to give him anything to make him less medicated, it would bring back his awareness of the pain. And the same thing goes for giving him less. If he is in pain, do *NOT* withhold the medication.
I know its hard for you to see him this way. But this isnt about you, its about him, and keeping him comfortable during the end of his life. Please do *not* put him in more pain in an attempt to make him less drugged.
If this is his wish, make sure he comprehends that the more coherent he is, the more pain he’ll experience.

I am assuming that he’s older? My grandmother had surgery recently, and the morphine did a number on her, not just mental cloudiness, but confusion, slurred speech… I was really worried. The physicians said that there wasn't much that could be done it was just how most older people handle morphine. She was in the hospital, so I just went with it, but if it ever happened again, I would be asking a pharmacist. They seem to know so much more about drug interactions. Hopefully there’s something that can help, that would not hinder the pain relief. Good Luck.
Answer:
Naloxone, or Narcan. But that will also cancel out the painkilling effects of it too i'm sure. I can't remember, its been a while since my combat medic days. I guess that would defeat the purpose if it did, and i suppose he's taking it for some sort of legitimate pain and not just because he's addicted. If he's addicted then hit him up with some Narcan, that'd wipe it all out for sure.

Don't pay attention to the stupid and rude answers you get. Honestly, on this type of question, my strong recommendation is to call your dad's physician and ask him. You don't want to take any chances. What if your dad has an allergic reaction to something unforeseen? Also, the doctor might be able to give him something that's effective but without these side effects. Or he can lower the dosage some…
Answer:
No.
There’s NOTHING that’ll reduce these side effects without reducing the benefits of the medication.
When morphone is prescribed it is because the person has so much pain nothing else will help.
Answer:
Some of it, perhaps. Amphetamines and amphetamine-like drugs sometimes help, but it seems from my experience that those with a valid reason for the combination generally don't like it (and those who don't, do!).
Answer:
It sounds like you are giving him too much if his speech is slurred ect. Check the dosage and make sure you are giving him no more than it says. Slurred speech is usually the effects of an overdose.
Answer:
not that i know of however there a alterntive medications tha will have the same pain rfelief effect with no nausa. also the pharmisist is a good person to ask… you can even call a 24/7 chemist.goodluck
Answer:
I've heard that Scotch Whiskey (in general alcohol) reduces the effect of drugs like Opium and Morphine.
I’ve seen people using this and state it works, but no scientific prof.
