to serquel and i forgot to ask the dr this question

Answer:
These are 2 entirely different types of medications. I've been on both but I am also a RN and specialize in pharmaceuticals. Restoril is in a class called benzodiazepines, like Valium, Klonopin, Xanax, and Ativan. These are all controlled drugs and are Schedule or Class IV. A Class III med would be something like Tylenol #3 (with Codeine) or Vicodin. Class II are your strongest meds like Morphine, Demerol, Methadone, Dexedrine, Desoxyn, Percocet,Oxycodone or Contin etc…However Restoril is used mainly for sleep, like the "benzo" Dalmane.

Seroquel is NOT a contolled drug, although you still need a prescription. Even though it can be used for sedation, it's an antipsychotic and it is used to treat schizophrenia and bi-polar disorder. Geez 300mg. of Seroquel? I guess you must have built up a tolerance to it. I take only 25mg. once a week (if that!) and THAT knocks me out for 1/2 of the next day! However, I can take A LOT of benzodiazepines with little effect. Everyone is different and you said that you currently are taking 30mg. of Restoril a night. Do you sleep well with it?

By the way, on my source list below is a site I think you REALLY should visit! In 2004 it was discovered that Seroquel was one of the 6 anti-psychotics that can cause diabetes, obesity, and high cholesterol. It's too much to go into here but there is legal action to be taken, if any problems have arisen. Best of health to you!

Answer:
You should be getting interactions information whenever you pick up your prescriptions. Check with the pharmacist, or with your doctor(s).

Do not ever mix prescription drugs without consultation with your doctor and then also, a full face-to-face discussion with the dispensing pharmacist. Try to stick to one doctor and one pharmacist. Do not stop taking prescribed medications suddenly and always ensure your doctor is aware of everything you are taking:- prescriptions; over-the-counter products; vitamins; herbs; minerals and street drugs. Do not take other people's medication. Look after yourself.

Answer:
300mg of Seroquel is a hefty dose. Restoril 30mg would be less strong, in my opinion.

Answer:
I am a doctor of pharmacy student so i think i can help with this one… They are medications to treat two different things. Seroquel is an antipsychotic to treat schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. Restoril is a benzodiazepine which is used to help treat anxiety disorders or help a person sleep. However, Restoril is used to treat the withdrawal symptoms associated with antipsychotics. This is probbaly why the doctor switched you to restoril, because he is trying to get you off of the seroquel, or lower your dose.

It is difficult to say which one is a stronger sedative because they work in different ways, but i would say that the seroquel will make you more drowsy then the restoril will.
