I am 15 years old and had recently decided that I would like to try out contact lenses. I have astigmatism and have contacts suited for such an eye condition. I have been wearing them for about one week.
I noticed my contacts help me see things from far away, which is good, but when I had taken out my contacts this evening I decided to put on my glasses.
I've noticed I cant see things clearly from far away, nearly as if my eyes won’t focus correctly through the glasses. It was not like this before. If you have any idea why this is happening or if there's anything I can do to cease it, please answer.
I'm sorry if my question was not descriptive enough.
Thank you.
Answer:
Your eyes are not changing due to the contacts.
What is most likely, is that your glasses are a bit older than the contacts - perhaps even a slightly different prescription, because prescriptions tend to change a bit over time naturally. And even if they’re both the exact same prescription, there are some natural differences between the way a glasses lens works and the way a contact lens works; nothing that makes one superior than the other, it just is different.
When you wear the contacts, your eyes get used to focusing properly through those. But when you go back to the glasses, which are slightly different, then your eyes have to readjust. If you wore the glasses only for a while, you would probably get used to those and then wearing the contacts would make your eyes feel funny.
This does not damage your eyes in any way. It's just damned annoying. If you really can't stand it, take your glasses to the place where you got your contacts and find out if they’re the same prescription or different. If they are different, you might want to get a new pair of glasses with the new prescription.
If they’re the same, then you just have to get used to it - choose one or the other to wear as your primary eyewear, and just get used to the weirdness when you occasionally wear the other.
Answer:
yes astigmatism can correct itself. your eyes could be getting better hence the older glasses not working as the new lenses.
astigmatism can correct itself with glasses or contact lenses so yes the prescription will change your eyes. I had to wear glasses for 5 years. getting a different yet better prescription each time until eventually i didnt have to wear them anymore. however during pregnancy had some problems with it that went back to normal after the baby was born.
Answer:
the other answers are valid! soft lenses dont generally change anything.
i would like to add, however, that of the contact lenses in question are “hard” or “gas permeable” contacts, then those *DO* change your vision/prescription.
Answer:
Your glasses prescription is older than your contacts prescription. Your eyes have changed so your glasses will not work now.
Just wear your contacts. Or get a new prescription for your glasses.
