Well, if you're staring at the sun, directly ie. nothing in the way like a window, then it would take about 30 minutes for your retina to get damaged irreversibly. The sun normally burns the photo receptors on the retina if you stare at it for too long.

depends on what kind of light. if you're staring at the sun, wouldn’t take long. keep in mind taht too tiny light can dmagae your vision as well.
