Good small dog?

Author: admin

I am looking for a small dog breed, that is good for apartment life, will be given a daily walk. Preferably doesnt need a lot of grooming. One that’s good with children and other animals. Does anyone know of a dog breed which match that description?

Answer:
if you listen to anyone to this one listen to me. My boyfriend and I purchased a shi-poo (schitzu poodle mix) a tiny over a year ago. She is one of the smartest, well mannered dogs either one of us have ever had. We both concur. Neither of us have children but when we take her to family parties where there are children or if kids come over, she’s so excited and will run and play with them all day long. She never gets in the way, is mellow when she's supposed to be, and believe it or not was potty trained/ home broken in less than 2 weeks. she does however need to be groomed once in a while. She lets me do it so i am happy for that. She does NOT shed at all which is great. we dont have to worry about people that have allergies not being able to come over. Definitely think about it. you wont be dissapointed. Look at some photos. They’re adorable! I put a video of my dog in the link below:

I can confirm that min pins need *very* tiny grooming, are pretty happy with apartment life, seem to be okay with the idea of walking as far as you want (or more?), and are small.

Barking might be an issue and/or something you need to work a lot on setting rules with, as they do generally like to tell you EVERYTHING. And them maybe make some stuff up if you're ignoring them. They *can* be good with kids (friendly and small-dog-gentle ones, at least — I'd try to find sturdier/bigger ones if you’ve children to be on the safe side) and other animals if properly socialized. . . even though they can also end up holy terrors who'll get upset with or even bite pretty much anything that bugs them if not. And they’re FAST — not at all fun to try catching if they get out, in other words.

Oh, and don't let them get bored. A bored min pin will get into anything and everything it finds that's interesting (and what isn't interesting?) or that it thinks will get your attention. What that amazing little mind will come up with is sort of adorable AFTER you clean up the mess, though.

In short, min pins aren't quite everyone's cup of tea. But I do love mine!

My mother has a minature dachshund (weenie dog) and my 3 year old and my 10 month old are so “abusive” to her. they pull her ears, lay on her, the poor thing just gets so much crap from my 2 boys, and she does nothing. she doesn't growl at them, or nip them…. she does nothing to them. she’s VERY protective of them. she does not need any grooming at all, they are very good tempermented! Dachshunds tend to be lovey dovey dogs, it will want to be around it's family…. i highly suggest them as a good inside dog

poodles - not good with kids, had one growing up that bit children, and my own personal one growled at and hated children they also need to be groomed each 2-3 months.

chihuahuas- not friendly to anyone accept their owner, regardless if other live in the same home they are partial to one person. go to the link below and type in the breed that has been recommended to you, it will tell you the temperament of each breed.

Answer:
No dog is good for apartment life. If you really want a pet get a short haired cat. Puppies need to go the water closet each 2 hours and right after they drink water, plus no matter what the size of your dog is the care/attention it needs is the same as any other breed. And one walk a day is not that great.

Answer:
I urge you to visit your local shelter and adopt a small, mixed-breed adult dog. Explain your needs with the staff and I'm sure they’ll both answer any question you’ve but introduce you to some likely candidates as well.

The good thing about adult dogs from shelters (especially NYC) is that they’re often house-trained, come spayed/neutered/UTD with shots and ideal of all, have been temperament tested to make sure they're good with children.

Good luck!

Answer:
Chihuahuas are wonderful small breed dogs that are great for apartment life. They have the ability to get most of their daily exercise indoors and if you get the smooth-coated ones you don't have to do much grooming at all.

Yorkshire Terries are also a great small breed dog for apartment living.

These two breeds are good with kids and other animals.

Answer:
Yorkie! hands down. They're lovable, don't require much room and are great with everyone. Also not too yappie. They're great protection though, cause they hear everything. I love the tea cup size myself.. if you keep it's hair short (like a puppy cut) they're very maintenance free and look cute.

You can take them anywhere. They fit in carriers and behave very well around others (not territorial like other small breeds, which can nip strangers) and you can put piddle pants on tiny boys so they don't “mark their territory” everywhere.

They are great with children, but also a great pet in lieu of kids ;)

Answer:
A Corgi will fulfill your wishes!

It's super adorable and incredibly smart! It actually doesnt need a lot of grooming for it has shorter hair. It has a small 'peuny' tail which distinguishes its look. I suggest a Corgi for sure. Check some out on the internet! They would also never bite!

Answer:
Chihuahuas's sound right for a person with your needs. They are extremely small 3-6lbs usually. Great for apartment life. Don't need to be walked long. Short-haired's are extremely simple and cheap to groom. And as long as they get socialized as puppies they have the ability to be great with careful older kids.

Answer:
If you want something that doesn't require much grooming, I would suggest a miniature pincher. Most other small dogs like a toy poodle require some sort of grooming.

I had a min pin for a while and she was a great little dog, so I feel comfortable recommending one.

Answer:
we have a chinese crested powder puff, they are very quiet and rarely bark, dont need a great deal of exercise, dont tend to smell and dont shed as they have a wool coat. perfect for apartment living, they’re also small enough to put in a carry bag when you want to go out

hope this is of some use to you good luck!

Okay my aunt has a dog that’s Maltese and Poodle, and another that’s Lhasa Apso and Poodle and they’d puppies. So I ended up getting one and she’s a dream! Now Maltese are normally supposed to be white… but since there’s some poodle in there my dog is black. She’s such a cutie and she’s so fun. Very good with children since I’ve a little brother and she’s fine. She’s such a social butterfly, and she’s definitely a cuddler. I have to say though, she does need grooming. Not often, but there does come the time when she needs to trim! I definitely suggest this kind of dog, I now have two of them I love her so much.

Answer:
We’ve a mini schnauzer/shitzu mix and she's lovely.

I would have to reccomend the shitzu, they were breed to be companions and you can keep their coat short with grooming and they don't shed. Never met a mean one plus they’re tooooo cute.

GOOD LUCK - try googling puppy quiz to find the right dog.

one more thing - If you consider a “mutt” you usually get the ideal of both (or more) breeds.

Take care.

Answer:
Although I usually think pound puppies are ideal, I would like to recommend a pug or a pug mix for you and your family. Pugs are cute, yes, but they’re also great with children. They are also lazy and great for apartment-living! They also have a short coat, which doesn't require a lot of grooming.

I have had a dachshund for 5 years now and she was our first dog. She brings so much love and joy into our household its extraordinary! They don't require any grooming except for getting their nails clipped every now and then and make sure they don't jump from any high furniture because of their long backs. Good luck!:)

Answer:
A tea cup chihuahua! I have a three pound chihuahua, she is adorable, cares about snuggling up, a tiny diva, would be perfect for an apartment, no grooming required plus she has the ability to go on a we-we pad if needed, no need to walk her unless you want to.

Answer:
A Chihuahua, mine is a perfect dog, doesn't need much exercise, never make a mess, and minds so well. I give mine the run of the house because she does nothing, they are very affectionate and love to be close to you. When she goes outside she’ll come to the door to make sure I'm still here. Good luck.

Answer:
u asked so….. toy poodle. the ideal dog i ever had u just have to brush it daily so it doesnt rat up and get it puppy cuts once every few months. u dont need to get unsightly pompoms - this makes for lots of grooming

Answer:
I'd be leery of terrier breeds. They tend to be barkers and that can irritate neighbors. Here’s a list of dogs that are supposed to be good in apartments.
