How can I get my apartment complex to let me have a pet? In the lease it says no pets, but I live alone, so people recommended I get a dog for company. How can I get them to state yes, any ideas on what I should state or do would be appreciated. thanks
Answer:
Well there is always the Companion Animal Law, if you’ve any form of depression or health / medical condition that warrants a companion might work. You should go to your Dr and see if he/she thinks you would benefit from one. If it's a yes he /she can fill out a form for you allowing you to have one. You then need to take the form to your land lord. The land lord should not be able to deny you after that. But that's the law in my say

My friend had a similar situation… Her husband went on deployment and she was lonely. She started fostering for a companion dog training rescue and became a back up fosterer for dogs in training to be service animals. Her apartment complex had no choice because the dog was in service training. Plus, she only had the dog on weekends or during the main trainer's vacation AND it kept her busy and was gratifying!

In some cases aquarium or terrarium animals count as furniture and will be allowed in ” no pet” apartments. But you will need to ask your landlord about it prior to getting any animal.
dogs and cats are pushing it if you ask me. You may be able to get your land lord to let you’ve a small animal that’s housed in an aquarium, terrarium or cage.
way too many people get dogs, cats, rabbits, rats, and other animals even though the lease says no animals. They think the land lord will never find out and surprise surprise they do. Look at any online classified around the time when leases are up and you'll see lots of animals in need of new homes.
so please if you really want an animal make sure you’ve the time and finances for it. Then talk to your landlord about it. If they won't bend the rules please respect the rules of the lease agreement and wait until you can change living arrangements.

In my apartment, I'm not granted to have pets, according to the lease, but I went to them and asked about small animals, and they let me have my chinchillas there. If you ask about a small pet that lives in a cage, and there's no risk of having it destroy the property, they might be willing to reconsider
Answer:
Have you NO concept of property rights? The owner of your complex has rights. He/they can do whatever they please with their property as long as they remain within the law. If the laws in your area grant pet free buildings, you’ve no hope of changing their policy. You want a dog? Move to an apt that accepts pets. Better yet purchase a home with a big fenced yard. I’m one who believes it is cruel to keep a dog of any size indoors most of the time. I won't even do that to a cat.
