Answer:
Hello; I am sorry for what you are going through with your Corn; it is always hard when you get a snake that you plan to handle and then the reptile in question has different ideas.
First off, check to make sure that when you start trying to work with her; that she is neither hungry nor in shed. After you’ve checked that; you can begin the handling process. Start by gently, calmly, and confidently removing her from her cage. The ideal thing to do is instead of worrying about it at all, just reach in and do it. From my experience; we as humans always seem to build up the fear in our minds so the situation seems a lot harder than it actually is. I had this exact same problem with an adult rescue Corn snake, and the way I got over the apprehension of possibly being bit was just thinking ‘She’s just a Corn snake. Worst case scenario: she bites me. So what? What harm can that do?’ It seems a lot easier after that.
With how scared she seems to be, it might be prudent to cover her up with a towel before removing her. After you pick her up, sit down somewhere. If you use a towel, slowly remove it. She’ll likely be scared, and will probably be showing aggressive body posture, or just trying to get away. She may bite you. Try to work through the anxiety and just keep on handling, keeping in your thoughts that she is only upset because in her mind, there’s this big predator swooping down and it might eat her. Allow her to settle down for a few minutes, just letting her move through your hands, and then put her back in her terrarium. Begin out only handling her for a few minutes a couple of times per week, building up in duration as you and she get more comfortable around each other.
Also spend time on a regular basis just tinkering around her cage, whether that be filling up her water dish, checking her temperatures, or even just sticking your hand in there so she gets more and more used to your presence and realizes that having you around isn't a scary thing. I’ve used that technique on anything from baby Kingsnakes to eleven foot Coastal Carpet pythons, and I have yet to have it fail. Keep up with that, and you should have a handleable snake in no time.
I hope this helps, and if you’ve any further questions at all on the subject; please feel free to message me and I’ll be more than happy to assist you.
Good luck with your Corns!
Answer:
Put the baby in a cloth bag (with a tie able top) and sit down to watch TV or whatever (Relax) and rest the bag on your stomach, After doing this for 3 of 4 evenings the snake will really enjoy your body heat, Then rest bag not tied, and let the snake come out onto your hand, if it tries to escape, Do Not grip it hard, feed it through your hands like a piece of string, letting it go from one hand to the next again and again.
If you are really scared, then w a pair of gardening gloves, Until the snake gets used to being handled.
Good luck.
