I’ve 4 budgies with long beaks 3 males and 1 female.
I clip their beaks with clippers each friday because they grow fast.
Anyway I grabbed a male budgie about to clip his top beak and it fell off. Right near the cere. It bled a lot. Its stopped now. He trying to preen himself like nothing has happen. He's fine. (that was friday)
I saw him trying to eat today (saturday)
It was well scary. Its frightened me. I'm worried about slicing the other 3 budgies with long beaks now.
Will they feel off too?
Have this happened to you?
Answer:
Don't listen to XXshellyXX. If you don't clip it, it can possibly not ever be able to eat. There isn't enough vitamins and nurutions in the male's diet.

You chose this as ideal answer? Say good-bye to your birds. I feel sorry for them. You should be reported to the ASPCA!!! Report It
Answer:
I breed parakeets and never have had to clip their beaks.
Your birds sound like they might have a vitamin or mineral deficiency. Their beaks should never fall off. That would be comparable to you losing your upper lip.
What do you mean he is fine and trying to eat? How can he eat w/o an upper beak? He needs this in order to crack open the seed and drink water.
I strongly suggest that you take your birds to a vet for consultation.

You really need to see an Avian specialist, though.
Answer:
You should never clip their beaks. Give them a piece of cuttlefish & that acts like a file when they bite it, & keeps beak short. I think you should take your bird to the vet, as it could starve if not able to eat properly.
