Answer:
colored ribbons collars
Answer:
Ussually you can tell a difference in each pup by color/markings and sex.
There are paper collars you can get.. similar to the kind you get for your wristband when you go to the fair.
Answer:
This may sound goofy but you could either paint a nail or two on each pup using different colors, or get a special shaver for animals (those made for people pull hair too much) and shave a different mark on each pup.
If they come out with different markings, take a picture of each one and use those to tell them apart.
Good luck!!!
Answer:
A friend who bred Maine Coon cats used nail polish. Use a dab on different paw claws for different puppies. If you have more than four pups, use a different color, and start the front paw left, front paw right sequence over again.
Answer:
definitely go with a paper collar for the first couple of weeks– that way if something does get caught- its paper- the mother can chew through and take it off- or even the puppy can get out of it/chew it off if its necessary…
try to make sure you can at least fit your fingers between the "collar" and the puppies neck too- to make sure it has a little bit of moving room…
Answer:
After you clean the puppy after the birth, you may put soft clothes elastic band around the puppy's belly FIRST. Then, by the time you finish each of them, you will be able to check them clearly & carefully by their different marks, points or colors!
Answer:
I take natural food color like you get in a grocery store and a q-tip and mark them if they are light, or i have also used ribbon around the neck, but make sure it doesnt hang so that it will not get caught and check it every few days for fit. I have also used nail polish and painted their tiny toenails.

this is what works for me with my bulldog puppies..I take 3 pictures of each one front, left, and right. I glue the pictures to an index card, on the card I also keep track of their weight. I weigh them daily for the first 2 weeks. I don't like the ribbons or colored collars nothing around the necks.. This works well with my puppies hope it helps you.
Answer:
You never mentioned the breed of dog. If it's a small breed dog and you are only expecting a couple of puppies, they are pretty easy to tell apart. Our Yorkie puppies born 6 weeks ago looked the same but very different. Of course we knew the male and the two females had slightly different markings. We called them stripes and spots.
If you are looking at a large litter you may want to try nail polish on the ends of their tails or on their paws.
Won't hurt them or their mom. As much as all puppies look a like, there is always something different about them that leaves it easy to tell them apart.
Answer:
I had pups that were stolen. A few days before the theft, they had gotten into fire ants, so I popped the blisters and put mercurichrome on the bites. When I filed the police report, I mentioned the red marks. ( Iodine will make the same ones.) When I laid a trap for the thief, I was able to prove they were mine by the red dots. It will take about 3-4 weeks to wear off. Devise a system. One dot, two dots, three dots, in different areas. Write it on separate pages of your notebook. Each dog will then be identified, and you will have a record of weight, amount of food eaten or length of suckle, dates of vaccinations, etc. Make sure you weigh and feed at the same time each day, as the weight can change hour by hour. Also take notes of urination and defecation. The mom will more than likely clean this up herself, but if you can note that it will help.
Caution: Be especially watchful for loose fur. This is a sign of dehydration, meaning the pup is not getting enough to eat. If you pinch the skin and fur up and it remains in a mound, the dog is in serious danger. Get Mother's Milk Replacer (MMR) immediately, Vet or some Walmarts' or feed stores. Feed every 2 hours, all night long (take turns staying up). You'll only need to do this a few days at most. My bottle baby is the most loveable dog you could ever want!

When I bought my Red Bloodhound they were all over the place looking like Crula DeVille's bunch of Dalmations all looking alike.
The owner had a magic marker and had little x's in their little ears to designate them.
My Lester was the First Red X cause he was first born.
Answer:
i always tell people the best way is to paint the back toe nails with finger nail polish each a different color, make sure it dries well before putting them back with mom using the back toes limits the amount polish from coming off you will need to reapply it in about 2wks. so try and do so when you can still see the color.
i work at a animal hosp. and this is one that we suggest to people and they always are happy with the results and i always do this with my own litters, my last litter was 12 and they were two sets of triplets, one set of twins, and one set of quads. i hope this helps you (even if mom licks them alot it doesn't come off that easy)
Answer:
get different colors of rick rack ribbon and tie them around their neck. It's soft and easy to identify.
