I really want a guinea pig but we’ve 3 cats, one of which we got off of the streets and is very crazy. Would they eat my guinea pig? I want one but i don't want it to get killed. How are some ways i can keep it safe?

Answer:
here's some tips on introducing your pigs to your cat:

First let your cat come up to the pig in the cage, but don't let it stick it's paws through the wire. it could catch your pig with a nail. if your cat shows signs of predatory behavior,(growling, stalking) they should not be in the same room together. if not, then set the pig on your lap, and have another person there who knows the cat well, to monitor the cat's behavior. let the cat sniff the pig and paw it gently. if your pig is at any time stressed, try it another day.

Answer:
Guinea pigs are prey animals. Cats, dogs, and ferrets are predators. Generally, the two don’t mix.

If you have an area/room that can be shut off from your cats and the cage is secured (with a lid or door), then yes, you can have a piggie or two! You wouldn't want the cats to be sitting outside the cage, staring at and drooling over the poor piggie all the time—it would frighten it half to death. So, you need to have a plan in mind before acquiring a piggie (or two!). :)

Answer:
I had 2 guinea pigs and 2 cats.. my cats were terrified of them they wouldn't go into my room at all. Most guinea pigs are fairly big so i don't really think it should be that massive of a problem to worry about. But all cats are different just make sure that the cage is locked at all times. my cage for my guinea pig had tiny plastic lock things on the top so it wouldn't open.

Answer:
Make sure your pig is in a room where the door can be shut and the cats can be outside of it. Put a top on the pig cage.

That’s really all you can do is try to keep the cats away from your pig, and keep a top secured on your cage so the cats cannot get in.

Answer:
Just keep your guinea pig in a small rodent cage. When you want to play, or hold it. Just go into a room, and shut the door. This way, the cat can't get to the guinea pig, and your guinea pig is safe. I hope this answers your question!

Answer:
they probably will or they’ll injure it a lot. you can still get a guinea pig if you want, but make sure it is reallyyyy far from the cats. and make sure the cage is always shut. dont take it anywhere near your cats. hope this helps <33

Answer:
A proper cage for you GP and put it behind a closed door when you're away. GP are rodents, cats eat rodents. I have gerbils and rats, AND cats. Not for a moment would I think that my cats wouldn't eat them the first chance they got.

Answer:
They’ll probably attack it…after all, they are predatory animals. If you get one, make sure to keep it caged or in an exercise ball at all times, and preferrably in a separate room.

Answer:
i had a cat that took out a full grown wild rabbit… i'm pretty sure it'd get your guinea pig if it had a chance.

you could still have one though as long as the cats can't get into it's pen

Answer:
Put it in a locked room and with a secure lid on the cage.
