Shes 4 months now, Ive been training her for 2 months on this issue she does really good for weeks at a time than slips up just when I think she's got it. any advise on this subject appreciated.
Answer:
Consistency is the most important thing to remember when training your dog. Is she on a potty schedule? If not you need to begin her on one. Once the schedule is in place don't veer from it, stay on top of it. She's still small so her bladder isn't capable of holding it for long periods of time. It can take up to a year for your dog to be able to be alone with no accidents at all. Just remember to be patient, consistent, and reward good behavior.
Answer:
It really depends on the type of puppy and the consistency/type of your training. If shes a smaller dog like a shih tzu or a chihuahua, she may never be *fully* house trained, but I know of many that are, it just takes longer. If she’s more massive, it can vary as well. The more intelligent the breed (herding breeds are generally quicker on the up-take than others) then the shorter the time.
One of the best methods of training is crate training, if you aren't already using this method. And if the dog is out of the crate during the day, you need to be able to observe her so you can recognize when she needs to go. She'll be circling corners and sniffing the ground excessively.
Also, I've noticed that if the dog *does* go in the home, do not let her see you clean it up! She will learn that you take care of the problem, and won't feel the need to halt. Other than that, just continue praising her when she goes outside, and lightly scolding her when she goes inside, using a spray bottle or some other non-violent method.
Answer:
If you're very, very consistent, keep your puppy in the room with you’re all times and in the crate those times you can't watch the puppy, and use a ton of praise the split second the puppy pees outside, housetraining is very swift. My puppy was reliably going to the door within 2 weeks. He did still have a few accidents when he was playing too hard and couldn't make it to the door in time and a couple that were my fault because I didn't see him in time, but he hasn't had a single accident since he was 3 1/2 months.

We got our lab mix when she was 3 months. I was so worried about training her cuz we have a newer home and my carpet is tan colored. She was raised outside on a farm, she was afraid to come in the home.
But it was really weird, she only had one accident on the carpet and has never pooped in the house. The next morning after we got her she started running to each door and barking, we finally figured out she needed out to poop! lol
What we did is take her outside every few hours or when she seemed to act like she was looking for a spot to go. We'd take her out on a leash and always stated do “you have to pee”, trying to get her to associate the word. If she went we would come in and she'd get a treat.
Answer:
Depends on the dog. My dog was almost 6 months old before he stopped. I tied a bell to my back door and taught him how to ring it to go out. Each time I opened the door to let him out, i rang the bell first. He caught on fairly swiftly.
Answer:
It could be anytime between 2 months to 6 months
