My cat Pumpkin is great i love her…i adopted her from the animal shelter and she just turned 1 March 31st. My question is sometimes she will rub up against my hands insisting that i pet her and scratch her back (she loves that) then she’ll turn around and bite me? not hard…it never really hurts but she gently bites me…kinda like a dog when it play bites…when she bites me her ears arent back no growling or hissing or anything like that…her tail doesnt even go back and forth like most cats do when their irritated…so am i doing something wrong or what?

Is your cat a Maine coon by chance? Because I’ve had a few Maine coon breeds and they all did the same thing.

My Zoie does the same thing. I call them love bites because she is so happy to see me and is loving and they are the softest little nips. It's her way of expressing the intensity of her love for me.
Either that or I'm just a crazy cat lady!!!

My cats do the same things. I think they're trying to show affection. Or, they don't like to be pet in a certain spot. My friends cat didn't like it's bottom pet and would turn and bite when you'd do so.

No you aren't doing anything wrong those are love bites. She’s just excited cause she adores the petting. Moms also bite their kittens to make them hold still when they wash them. You are fine enjoy your cat. Glad she adores you.

do you stop petting your cat just before she bites? my cat will do that when he isnt done with my attention. another cat would do that when she had enough. pay attention to the ears you arent doing anything wrong

No you are doing nothing wrong. I’ve seen cats do that (including my own). I think they are sort trying to tell you that they have had enough patting for now.

My cat used to get too excited and bite or scratch me. I just gently hit him on the head so he knows not to do that. My cat still cares about me even though I have to hit him.

sounds like she’s just playing with you. Like when you watch kitten play they wrap around each other and roll on the floor and naw at each other with there teeth. Just they way they play. Nothing to worry about =)

if she's not showing any signs of aggression she's giving you some love nips. haha.
i wouldn't be worried about it, but if it bothers you let her know that it hurts you and she'll respond.
if it gets worse, try getting a little squirt bottle with water and give her a tiny spray to let her know it's bad.
she'll eventually go from nipping to licking.
my friends kitten has been a biter from the first day they got him, they used the spray bottle method and now she plays and bites sometimes but mostly she just licks your fingers.
