My pet rat is about 2 years, and all of about a couple of weeks ago she started having red tears [Porphyrin]. it has still lasted, she has lost weight, her gait is really clumsy..she cant stand up straight to eat, and if she walks too fast she will fall over…she has lost a TREMENDOUS amount of weight..and she’s having green gooey discharge from her vagina. i kno she wont make it much longer..but i would like to kno the cause of this. the weird thing is, she tries to run around normally like nothing is wrong with her. pleas help.
Answer:
It definitely sounds like pyometra, which will be fatal very soon if you don't take her to the vet. Usually they’ll spay a rat with this condition and give them a course of antibiotics and they will be just fine but since you have waited this long to do anything it probably is too late. For her sake and yours I hope not! If you can’t afford the surgery, please have her humanely euthanized, most vets will do this for free or less than $20 for a rat (no exam charge). I'm sorry to hear she isn't feeling well, good luck!
Answer:
That happened to one of my rats. )=
The redness of the tears is normal, at least if it's albino like mine was, and should come out of the nose rather than the eyes. If it's coming out of the eyes then I don't think they're tears. They are most likely unrelated to the discharge, but I could be wrong. I suspect that my rat was allergic to pine shavings, she sneezed a lot, so that could be part of the issue. I really don't know what to tell you about the green discharge, perhaps an infection? But the best thing to do would be to take her to a vet, if you can afford it. Sorry to hear she's not doing well.
Answer:
The discharge sounds like a pyometra (an infection in the uterus that causes the uterus to fill up with pus). Its really common in cats and dogs, but I've never come across it in a rat. But I guess anything with a uterus can get a pyometra.
Answer:
sounds like there could be a few things wrong.. she is getting kinda old now for a tiny rat and some die earlier than others… so some of it could just be old age. but the discharge sounds like an infection of the uterus. take her to a vet there still may be time.
Answer:
Sounds horrible. could be neurological or the like. Please end her suffering; take her to your vet. That is about the lifespan of a rat.

The ideal thing to do is take her to the vet. One of my rats that had died, both of her eyes were covered in red discharge so she probably couldn't`t see ((they don't see very well anyway), she falled over allot and couldn't`t balance, urine got stuck to her so we had to bathe her, poo got stuck to her as it got worst she just lay on her side trying to get up so we’d to feed her and give her water through a syringe, when she got better she would eat tons but was still very thin. Fortunately she started to walk around again but still fall over but sadly it looked like she didn't`t know what she was doing, she also had lost a few of her teeth. She survived for a month and then one day i saw her squished behind her home hardly breathing so very still and hardly blinking and then at 10:00pm she died. I was heart broken. I know it`s sad, the tiny fellows don`t live very long.
