I heard that Red ear sliders like to be in the sun. So I set up another tank outside and gave it a floating dock like the one in my home. My turtle loves sitting on the floating dock inside my house, but when its outide it just hides and it won't eat outside or sunbathe. Is there something i'm doing worng? Help ;]

Answer:
It's probably stressed out by it's new environment. Switching would confuse him and since he doesn't feel safe he just hides. It's best you have a basking light over his dock inside, this is their sun and is necessary. The light helps keep their shells strong and growing, without the shell would become soft and can cause death. So set up a light and only bring the turtle outside once in a while. Removing them from their home causes stress, they don't like to be handled much. Your inside tank should have everything the little guy needs. My turtles come out only a few times a month and only when the weather's nice. One enjoys it while the other just hides. Hope I could help!

Answer:
Maybe he’s just not used to his new home. Give it a little time and if he is healthy, he should love to bask. I have 6 RES and 1 Painted turtle that are nearly the size of dinner plates. They are indoors in a huge pond in the fall and winter because it is really cold where we live. When I take them to their ourdoor pond, it takes them a couple days to get re used to the routine again. You should see them when they pile up 3 high. It is so cute!

Answer:
The sun light is too hot for them. Keep them inside the home. Just remember, water can be boil if it place for a long time under the sun.

Answer:
If it is used to indoors then maybe it needs a bulb for basking and the sun is too harsh for it!

Answer:
No, that happens to my turtle too, and there is nothing wrong with him.
