we just rescued a puppy which was 4 days old when the mom went AWOL and didnt feed the pups. 3 died and one survived, ours. we’ve had her for 3 days and she only pooped 3 times, twice on day 1 and once today. the first 2 were brown and normal. todays was half brown and half yellow/cream color. we are feeding her handmade formula of evap milk, 1 egg yolk, karo syrup, and water when ever shes hungry. we also do belly stimulation to make her pee and poop. btw her mother is out of the photo so taking her back to momma is suicide for her. what does the palish color mean do we take her to the vet what could be wrong?

Answer:
I just got through raising a puppy on this exact formula and this stool is COMPLETELY normal.

Alarming and MESSSSSSSSSSSY (wait till your baby gets older it gets SO messy!!!) But normal!

OH and I wouldn't listen to the advice given above this one….nothing that you've described points to giardia. So I wouldn't at all be alarmed. I’ve dealt with Giardia before and what the puppy I just worked with did was the exact same as what your describing.

And pedialite isnt needed either.

I don't think it's something to worry about but then again I'm not a vet. It just sounds like she's clearing out the insides with what you gave her. I'd take her to the vet anyway for a check up and any advice on food from the vet as well. Good job on the rescue. Atleast you guys got to save atleast one life right? I'm happy for ya. I wish you all the ideal of luck with the pup.

Answer:
A creamy yellow color recommends an intolerance to food… But if it's like.. diarrhea, it also points to parvo virus… I suggest you take her to the vet if she stops eating or if her stools do not return to normal within a day or two.

Answer:
You should feed a puppy formula they sell it at petco. It sounds like the food is going through her very fast, the yellow is bile. It starts out a yellow then turns green then brown when going through digestion.

Answer:
It could definitely be from what you're feeding, even though this kind of thing isn't unusual for very young puppies. Not pooping has probably come from the stress over the last couple days for puppy. Also, if you're not feeding solids, solids aren't going to come out. Add some plain Pedialyte… 1cc every 4 hours for electrolytes.

Sounds like Giardiasis to me. I've seen it many times and it's passed from mother to puppy through the milk. Transmission is pretty much instant and it spreads like wildfire.

Take the puppy for a wellness check asap and ask when the pup is old enough to receive Metronidazole (Flagyl) or a Safeguard regimen. Typically it's no younger than 4 weeks.
