Do snakes bite themselfs? And for what resons?
Answer:
Normally no, but if they have the scent of food, like a rodent, on them, they might bite themselves on rare occasions. I recently saw a coachwhip biting itself repeatedly after eating a mouse. Didnt hurt itself though.
This is most likely with really young snakes. Snakes that eat other snakes, like kingsnakes, might, on very rare occasions bite themselves because they smell like food. Again, this is usually with baby snakes, and might indicate that that snake doesnt have the “sharpest” instinct. Usually they will figure it out very soon, and let themselves go. There have been ultra-rare cases of baby snakes trying to swallow their own tails, and even dying that way. Thats how nature filters out the really dumb ones I guess.
Answer:
Snakes do not bite themselves. At least not on purpose. Even if they do no harm will come to the snake except maybe infection. If your snake is doing this you should seek help from a vet.
