I’ve a 2 year old female black labradoer. I’m wondering what is the ideal food for her. I’ve been feeding the generic pedigree adult but i think it is time for a real food that will actually be good for her.
Answer:
Depending on your area. You may not have access to all of the food that people talk about on this forum. I know I looked all over for any of the “6 star foods” in my area and couldn't find any. I did finally find the Solid gold barks at the moon at petco. It was about $40 for the 15 lb bag. If you can't afford something that expensive (like me) I bout the Solid Gold Hund N Flacken. It cost about 40 for 30 lb bag. I have notived a hige difference in my animals since i took them off science diet.
I can't stress enough www.dogfoodanalyisis.com It will really help in your search for a superior food.
Answer:
I feed my dogs Bakers complete dry food which they seem to enjoy. They’ve lots of different meals to chose from but the complete adult has everything in to keep your dog healthy - protein, fibre, carbohydrates, calcium, minerals and iron! Its keeping my dogs well

Now my answer comes from personal experience and what all the vets have told me when I tell them I feed the dogs Canidae. One of the vets I see feeds her dogs that too. It meets all the suggestions and beyond what a dog food should be. It is pricier than the other dog foods but in my thought and that of others, it is by far superior. None of those ingredients that are just filling but have no nutritional value. The ingredients don’t have meal after it such as corn meal, chicken meal. It is a superb dog food that I’ve given my five dogs now for months and they love it, the vets are happy, I'm happy and so that makes Canidae the ideal dog food in my thought.
Answer:
What about orijen, merricks, solid gold, innova, wellness, or nature's variety? You're right - pedigree (as well as all other supermarket brands like iams, science diet, and purina) all are not 'real foods' for dogs, unless you believe a dog's real diet consists of mostly corn.

Best of luck!

Answer:
The best food for your dog is one that meets her health and nutritional needs. Nobody can access those for your dog but you.
We give our shih tzu Blue Buffalo. Blue Buffalo Life Protection Formula (dry food) does not use animal by-products and their gluten-free recipes don’t contain any artificial flavors, colors or preservatives. Their food also does not have corn, wheat or soy, which have been known to trigger allergies.
You can go to the website: http://www.bluebuff.com and read more about the products they have. You can also request a free sample (and a $3 coupon) so you can see if your dog is going to enjoy it before you purchase a bigger bag.
Their treats and canned food were on the recall list so I don't advocate those.

Answer:
There are several good as well as bad and mediocre foods available. A good site to check out is http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com/ and then check out the foods rated at least 4 stars (5 or 6 star foods are even better).
Another option would be to check out raw food diets, either making your own, buying ready made (or a combination of two or more options). http://www.americangrassfedbeef.com/gras… http://www.thehonestkitchen.com/ These are a few links to check out.
