Okay so my mom did the un-thinkable.. she let my almost ready to bust mother to be cat outside last night…and she has yet to come back!!! Of coarse I'm thinking she went off and had them..but now I can't seem to find her..I live in Ohio so there's a lot of land that she could possibley be on..I searched for her and yelled her name for nearly an hour and a half this day…and still haven't found her… I'm just so worried (it was raining last night) How long should I let her do her “thing” before I get worried about her. She needs water'd and fed!!!!
-also I have a male cat..will he get jealous and eat the kittens?
Answer:
If she's “busy” having her kittens, she's not going to come to you, however long you call. She's going to stay with them until she's through….even if she's hungry.
Set out some food and water for her, and leave the light on to scare away other animals. IF you see that she's been there to eat, you need to hide and watch for the next time she comes to eat…..then follow her ( without her seeing you ) to her babies.
Do you’ve any abandoned vehicles, other cars, sheds, woodpiles, etc. around, where she can HIDE and have the kittens? This may be where she’s…..hiding nearby. Set out some of her bedding, so that IF she's lost her way, she has the ability to SMELL her way back home.
Your male cat might be able to “lead” you to where they are!! Watch him to see where he goes, when he's outside, and follow him. My males used to love to lie in the bed WITH the mom and her babies…and never bothered them.
I even had a rabbit “couple” one time, who had babies. Everyone told me that the buck would kill the babies……but that didn't happen. The doe would hop away and not pay any attention to the bunnies, and the buck got into the box and “babysat”. I had to put a DOOR on the front of the box, to “lock” the doe inside, just so she'd stay long enough to FEED the babies!!
So, never believe everything that you hear, about males killing babies. It really depends on the individual animal…….
Hope you find her soon, and the babies too, if they're already born. Shame on mom, for not being more responsible…….. :-/
Good luck.
Answer:
I wouldn't worry, she's probably holed up somewhere with her babies, when she gets hungry, I suspect she'll come home. Wild instincts are strong in cats anyways, if it were my cat, I wouldn't be worried.
Answer:
speak to the vet, they’ll give the ideal advice because they know more about what animals will do in a given time then us.
