She wanted me to ask on this…

Up to two menstrual periods ago her period was normal. Light brownish, heavy normal red bleeding, light brownish again.

SHe knows having brownish dishcgarge is normal, but not through out her entire period and it being so light and short. she only has two days of brownish discharge, and doesn't need to change her tampon as much. She says she does it anyway, but that theres basically no reason. ( not to get too graphic) What could this mean?

Shes on the Nuva ring and changes it correctly and at the right time. She isnt under any additional stess or on any new medications?

thank you for your help…

I think the nuva ring is causing all these problems. It did the exact same thing to me.

Answer:
When your on birth control, your period comes lighter, but if shes really concerned she should go to the doctor.

Answer:
possible ovarian cyst. That is what I happens to me. I have irregular periods. Like one months might be normal. THe next month only 2 1/2 days of brown discharge….the 3rd cycle I might have a very heavy uncomfortable period. Have her google ovarian cysts to see if her symptoms match that. Tell her good luck. What a good hubby you are writing in. Mine wouldnt.

Answer:
First of all if she has been on birth control for at least 5 years she needs to give her body a break from the hormones…. so you'll need condoms. Also even though she may not feel as though there's a reason to change her tampon frequently she doesn't want to go into toxic shock from the build up of bacteria.

Even though she has been on birth control before if she changes her birth control even in a doseage may contribute to this kind of change. Well if there aren't any other changes in her life there is a possibility that she could be pregnant and have some sort of period. I would advise her to talk with her doctor.

I was on Nuvaring for a while. When you say she uses it correctly, I'm assuming she leaves it in for 3 weeks and takes it out for one, replaces it etc…

She can also use it correctly by putting a new one in, right after taking the old one out. If this is what she is doing - she will not have normal periods, and they will progressively become shorter and shorter. Nuvaring uses progesterone, which signals to the brain she is already pregnant, and not to release an egg. This will also thin out the endometrial lining that sheds, so when you bleed - it's usually not as heavy, and the older the blood is when it's released, the darker it will be (ergo the brown blood.)

Also, if her bleeding is that light, she should be using the smallest tampon available, and still change it every 4-6 hours to avoid toxic shock syndrom.

Hope this helps.
